Can You Freeze Cooked Rice – How To Freeze Cooked Rice
Categories Grains & PastaRice is one of my daughter’s favorite foods. She would eat it by the bowlful with nothing else if she had the chance. It’s great to have at meals as it is inexpensive, filling, and can be used with a variety of dishes. Sometimes rice seems to take forever to cook though. I know it is only about a half hour but that can seem like a long time when my daughter has curling practice after school and then 45 minutes to spare before figure skating starts.
Can You Freeze Cooked Rice?
Fortunately, it is easy to make rice ahead of time and freeze it for later use.
How To Freeze Cooked Rice
When you are making a meal and having rice with it, cook double the amount of rice you think you will need and you can freeze any rice that is not used.
You need to let the rice cool completely before you freeze it so after your meal, pop any of the leftovers into the fridge. By making sure it is cooled completely you will be able to avoid clumps when you freeze it. Leave it overnight and portion it out for the freezer the next day.
Decide what portion sizes you will need for one or two meals so you know how much rice to put into each bag.
I like to freeze mine in bags as they lay flat in the freezer and do not take up as much room as a container. But, you could also use resealable plastic containers if you prefer. Don’t forget to label your containers with the type of rice and the date.
To reheat the rice all you need to do is pull it out of the bag and heat it up in the microwave. This is a quick and easy way to get a meal on the table in a short amount of time.
